I worked as a paid Graphic Design intern for Kettering University from Sept. 2019 to June 2020. I was the sole in-house designer and absolutely loved all the projects that came my way, including video editing and photography!
Kettering Digital Magazine
An on-going project throughout my internship was contributing to the Spring 2020 magazine.
I am listed as a contributor on Page 1, where the “Step into the Next Century” graphic I created is located.
I also contributed the feature photo of Chelsea Carter on page 18, as well as the “Leave Your Mark” graphic on the back cover. This was definitely an awesome project and I was so grateful to be part of it!

centennial gala
This signage was used at Kettering’s Centennial Gala on Oct. 19th, 2019. I created this signage in Photoshop. All four pieces were printed at 20″ x 30″ dimensions. The Welcome sign was on foam board, and the remaining three were on laminate signs.
I also made thank you cards for the president that were placed inside gift bags for the alumni attendees.
For the week leading up to the Centennial Gala, which was called “Founder’s Week” and full of campus events, I designed social media promos. Below is a sampling.
special events
For the annual Holiday Tree Lighting, Kettering asked me to create their promo poster instead of a third party design firm they used the year before. The poster on the left is mine; the right is from the third party. I think both designs are very good, but I was able to deliver the minimal elegance that was desired.
Next, I designed a postcard to mailed to guests of the Dog Day Snow Fest event! This was a fun project that I created entirely from scratch in Illustrator.
Next, I designed a space themed banner to be printed and awarded to the winners of a First Robotics competition. Definitely one of my favorite and most fun projects!

digital marketing
I updated the email header of Bulldog Weekly, which goes out to staff and alumni, to give it a fresh look. The original was a bit distorted and outdated. The President’s Office also requested that I update their email header.
Another improvement I made to digital marketing was to update the slide they displayed on all TVs around campus. You can see it in the image below.

the story behind the internship
I worked at Starbucks for my first semester at Mott, and one day a man I helped in the drive-thru paid for a car of girls behind him. When they pulled up, the girls were giggling and said that the man ahead of them was their president!
I wasn’t sure what they meant until they told me they went to Kettering University. I was shocked because I had helped Dr. Robert McMahan a few times, but never had any idea who he was.
The next time he came through, I verified what the girls said and asked if Kettering would be open to having me as an intern. He gave me his business card, and well… the rest was history!
